Frictional materials - mfre bu sinter-pressing onto copper coated base materials
Abstract
Abstract Frictional materials based on iron powders mixed with graphite, sulphide and other frictional agents can be prepd. by mfr. of a compact of these materials which is then sintered without application of pressure at 950-1150 degrees C and then sinter pressing this compact onto a copper coated steel base at 750-850 degrees C and a 2-5 kg/cm2 applied pressure. Copper can be deposited onto the steel base either electrolytically or by thermal means. Copper alloys may also used. The use of this intermediate layer ensures good adhesion of the frictional layer to the base. Materials capable of withstanding far higher operating temps. than conventionally prepared sinter-bronzes and other wholly sinter-pressed materials is thus manufactured.
