Protection of xerographic materials - with harder and more abrasion-resistant coating, for long life
Abstract
Abstract Photoconductive coatings, which are so highly insulating in the dark that they can retain an electric charge applied to their surface, e.g. by corona discharge, for long periods, i.e. many seconds to minutes, but become conductive when exposed to light, so that the charge breaks down locally, have a protective coating which is harder and more resistant to rubbing than the photoconductive coat. The material is used as intermediate carrier in xerography, esp. on Se type photoconductive conting. Suitable protective coatings consists of lacquers, e.g. cellulose ester varnish, methacrylic esters or derivs. and glass.
