Abstract
Abstract In the parent patent, fibre bales are opened on their underside by traversing the underside with pairs of oppositely driven needle tables or rollers whose needles are inclined in opposite directions, the speed of the rollers being controlled by sensing the fibre properties or properties of the bales. In this addn. the drive of a needle table adjacent the discharge end of the bale openers is controlled by a measuring device responsive to the opening behaviour of the fibre bales (I). All bales irrespective of their hardness are opened uniformly.
