Abstract
Abstract Disclosed are water-soluble salts otthe known antitumor agents 2-hydroxymalonato diammine platinum (II), 2-hydroxymalonato (1,2-diaminocyclohexane)platinum (II) and 2-hydroxymalonato (1,1-diaminomethylcyclohexane)-platinum (II). The novel sodium and ammonium salts of the present invention possess high water-solubility, thus allowing intravenous dosage forms to be prepared for treatment of mammalian tumors.

Process for preparing the ammonium or sedium salt according to claims 1 to 6, which comprises the steps of (1) providing a suspension of 2-hydroxymalonato diammine platinum (II), or of 2-hydroxymalonato-(1,2-diamminocyclohexane)platinum (II) or of 2-hydroxymalonato-(1,1-diaminomethylcyclohexane)-platinum (II) in water; (2) adding to said suspension with stirring at least about one equivalent of ammonium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide to form a solution; and (3) recovering the desired ammonium or sodium salt, respectively, from said solution.
