Digital transmission system with adaptive coding of sampled and orthogonally transformed analogue information
Abstract
The digital transmission system with rate reduction coding by adaptive threshold orthogonal transformation is such that, in each frame, after the binary elements of the coefficients obtained by a basic coding of quantization step 2 <S> (S being a number positive or zero integer), additional coding is transmitted. The additional coding is obtained by adding up to the maximum capacity of the channel, the binary element of weight 2 <S-1> for each of the coefficients, taken in chronological order, and, when the coefficient is zero in the quantization scale of step 2 <S> and the binary element of weight 2 <S-1> different from zero, to add still the binary element of sign of the coefficient considered. The circuit structures to be added to conventional coders and decoders are described. Applicable to digital television, but also to coding and transmission of high fidelity sound.
