Total Claims: 29
Claim 1
Independent Claim 61 words
A posterior chamber intraocular lens comprising: (a) an optic; (b) support means for engaging an eye structure posterior of the iris to support said optic from said eye structure and retain said optic in alignment with the anterior-posterior axis of the eye; and (c) retaining means for engaging the anterior surface of the iris to impede posterior dislocation of said optic.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 61 words
A posterior chamber intraocular lens comprising: (a) an optic; (b) support means for engaging an eye structure posterior of the iris to support said optic from said eye structure and retain said optic in alignment with the anterior-posterior axis of the eye; and (c) retaining means for engaging the anterior surface of the iris to impede posterior dislocation of said optic.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 45 words
A lens as claimed in claim 1 in which said support means includes a radially extensive support structure connected to said optic, said retaining means including a radially extensive retaining structure connected to said optic, said retaining structure being disposed anteriorly of said support structure.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 45 words
A lens as claimed in claim 2 in which said retaining structure includes a plurality of radially extensive retaining elements, each of said retaining elements being connected to said optic, said retaining elements being disposed at circularly spaced locations about the axis of said optic.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
A lens as claimed in claim 3 in which the tip of each of said retaining elements remote from said optic is devoid of sharp edges.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
A lens as claimed in claim 4 in which each of said retaining elements includes a filament, an end of such filament being imbedded in said optic.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
A lens as claimed in claim 5 in which the tip of each of said retaining elements is defined by a bight in the filament included in such element.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 22 words
A lens as claimed in claim 6 in which each of said retaining elements is formed solely from one of said filaments.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 52 words
A lens as claimed in claim 7 in which one of said filaments is formed in the shape of a U, the base of such U being remote from said optic and forming the tip of one of said retaining elements, both ends of each such filament being imbedded in said optic.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 19 words
A lens as claimed in claim 8 in which all of said filaments are formed in said U shape.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 52 words
A lens as claimed in claim 7 in which one of said filaments is formed in the shape of a J, the base of such J being remote from said optic and forming the tip of one of said retaining elements, only one end of such filament being imbedded in said optic.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 19 words
A lens as claimed in claim 10 in which all of said filaments are formed in said J shape.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 21 words
A lens as claimed in claim 11 in which the non-imbedded ends of said J-shaped filaments are devoid of sharp edges.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 32 words
A lens as claimed in claim 3 or claim 9 or claim 12 in which only two of said retaining elements are provided, such retaining elements being diametrically opposed to one another.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 30 words
A lens as claimed in claim . 3 or claim 9 in which the diameter across said retaining elements is less than the major diameter of the normal human iris.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 15 words
A lens as claimed in claim 14 in which said diameter is about 7.75 mm.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 28 words
A lens as claimed in claim 2 or claim 9 or claim 12 in which each of said retaining elements extends from the anterior surface of said optic.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 33 words
A lens as claimed in claim 16 in which each of said retaining elements includes an anteriorly extensive portion and a radially extensive portion, said anteriorly extensive portion being connected to said optic.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 42 words
A lens as claimed in claim 17 in which the radially extensive portion of each of said retaining elements slopes posteriorly from its juncture with the anteriorly extensive portion of such element to the tip of such element remote from said optic.
Claim 20
Dependent Claim 37 words
A lens as claimed in claim 18 in which the radially extensive portion of each of said retaining elements is disposed at an angle of about 3° to about 5° to the transaxial plane of said optic.
Claim 21
Dependent Claim 41 words
A lens as claimed in claim 3 in which said support means includes a plurality of resilient support elements extending radially outwardly from said optical element, said support elements being disposed at circularly spaced locations about the axis of said optic.
Claim 22
Dependent Claim 22 words
A lens as claimed in claim 20 in which each of said support elements is aligned with one of said retaining elements.
Claim 23
Dependent Claim 24 words
