Abstract

Abstract A diagnostic monitoring system detects and displays a malfunction occured in various engine operation control computers (4) which include a microcomputer, actuators and sensors Each of the engine oora- tion control computers performs a diagnosis program as a part of the control programs and produces an abnormal signal when a malfunction is detected. A cen- traiized supervisory system (6) receives such abnormal sianals from the engine operation control computers and stores separately for individua; control computers. A display unit (7) displays the content of the abnormal signal ir response tc the instruction from the central supervisory system.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 117 words
A diagnostic monitoring system for motor vehicles comprising: a plurality of control computers (4) each separately controlling an object part of a vehicle to be controlled in accordance with a predetermined control program, each of said control computers including means for detecting malfunctions in the control thereof and generating malfunction signals; centralized supervisory means (6) for performing a centralized supervisory control in response to the occurrence of the malfunction signals from said plurality of control computers separately for each of said control computers and generating display signals corresponding to the occurrence of malfunction signals; and display means (7) responsive to said display signals from said centralized supervisory means to display inside said vehicle the contents of malfunctions.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 117 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein each of said plurality of control computers (4) generates a malfunction signal indicative of the location of a malfunction.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
A system according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said centralized supervisory means (6) stores the malfunction signals from said plurality of control computers separately for each of said control computers.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A system according to claim 2, wherein said display means (7) displays a symbol indicative of each said control computer and another symbol indicative of the location of a malfunction on the same screen.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
A 'system according to claim 1, wherein said display means (7) has predetermined priorities for displaying the contents of malfunctions.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 43 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein each of said control computers detects malfunctions in the control thereof during the control of said object part in accordance with a diagnostic program forming a part of said control program, thereby generating said malfunction signals.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 90 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein said centralized supervisory means (6) stores malfunction data corresponding to the occurrence of malfunction signals in first and second memory areas separately for each of said control computers whereby upon occurrence of a first predetermined timing after the time of the last occurrence of said malfunction memory area corresponding to the occurrence of said malfunction signals are reset and upon occurrence of a second predetermined timing longer than said first predetermined timing the corresponding malfunction data in said second memory area are reset.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 105 words
A system according to claim 7, further comprising command generating means operable externally to generate first and second commands for displaying first and second malfunction contents, and wherein said display means (7) is responsive to said first command generated from said command generating means to display said first malfunction contents in accordance with the malfunction data stored in said first memory area of said centralized supervisory means (6) and responsive to said second command generated from said command generating means to display said second malfunction contents in accordance with at least the malfunction data stored in said second memory area of said centralized supervisory means.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 154 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein selected ones of said plurality of control systems (4) each includes means for generating condition signals indicative of operating conditions of said object part, wherein said centralized supervisory means (6) receives said condition signals from said selected control systems and performs a centralized supervisory control on the occurrence of malfunction signals from said plurality of control computers separately for each of said control computers such that a malfunction display signal corresponding to the occurrence of a malfunction signal and a condition display signal corresponding to said condition signal are selectively generated, and wherein said display means (7) is responsive to said condition display signal generated from said centralized supervisory means (6) to display an operating condition of said object part associated therewith and responsive to said malfunction display signal generated from said centralized supervisory means to display corresponding malfunction contents inside a vehicle compartment of said vehicle.
