Claim 1
Independent Claim
277 words
A tamper-resistant screw closure for application to a container of the type having a body to hold the contents of the container, a mouth through which the contents can be dispensed, an external screw thread adjacent to the mouth and external projecting means below the screw thread in order to close the mouth thereof wherein the closure (1) comprises a cap part (2) with a top and a depending skirt (5) with a lower marginal edge and a tamper-resistant band (3) below the skirt (5) with an upper marginal edge and connected to the skirt (5) by a plurality of frangible connecting means, the tamper-resistant band (3) being provided with internal projecting means (e.g. 23) to engage with external projecting means (e.g. 13) on the container (9) to resist upward movement of the tamper-resistant band (3) when the closure (1) is unscrewed from the container (9) characterised in that the frangible connecting means consist of elongate frangible tongues (4) spaced apart around the closure (1) arranged and adapted to allow a certain amount of "play" when the closure (1) is being applied to a container to extend substantially vertically relative to the closure (1) and further characterised in that the lower marginal edge of the skirt (5) of the cap part (2) and the upper marginal edge of the tamper-resistant band (3) each have a plurality of spaced apart rows of engageable, serrated teeth (6, 7) disposed between adjacent tongues (4), the teeth being so arranged that when the closure (1) is being unscrewed from an associated container the teeth (6) on the skirt are immediately moved out of contact with the teeth (7) on the band.
