Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 68 words
An acoustic transducer for use in an acoustic well logging apparatus in a sonde, the transducer (30) comprising a pyramidal frustrum base formed of metal and having external faces thereon and adapted to receive and support piezoelectric crystals on said faces for operating as a transducer in an acoustic well logging apparatus, and having mechanical resonant frequencies in excess of a passband frequency required of such a transducer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 68 words
An acoustic transducer for use in an acoustic well logging apparatus in a sonde, the transducer (30) comprising a pyramidal frustrum base formed of metal and having external faces thereon and adapted to receive and support piezoelectric crystals on said faces for operating as a transducer in an acoustic well logging apparatus, and having mechanical resonant frequencies in excess of a passband frequency required of such a transducer.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 40 words
A transducer according to claim 1, wherein said metal base is constructed and arranged to define N crystal mounting faces in an encircling arrangement about a smaller end, said faces having a trapezoidal shape, and where N is an integer.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 10 words
A transducer according to claim 2, wherein N is 15.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
A transducer according to claim 1,2 or 3, wherein said base is aluminum.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 17 words
A transducer according to claim 1,2,3 or 4, which has mechanical resonant frequencies above about 25 kHz.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
A transducer according to any of claims 1 to 5, wherein each face has a crystal mounted thereon.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 24 words
A transducer according to any of claims 1 to 6, wherein the pyramidal frustrum base has an angle of divergence of less than 20°.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 20 words
A transducer according to claim 7, wherein the pyramidal frustrum base has an angle of divergence of 7 to 14°.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 26 words
A transducer according to any of claims 1 to 8, wherein the pyramidal frustrum has a surrounding right hollow cylinder (32) at the small end thereof.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 68 words
A transducer according to claim 1, wherein: (a) said base is formed of aluminum; (b) said base has straight line edges (40) between adjacent faces; (c) said straight line segments are between about 5.1 and 6.4 cm in length; (d) said faces support said crystals thereon; (e) said crystals are connected in parallel by a conductor means; and (f) said base has a ground connection with said crystals.
