Mould release agent and method for producing polyurethane foam articles using this agent
Abstract
A release agent that is suitable for the production of objects made of polyurethane foam in molds is described. It is an emulsion or dispersion of known separating substances and, if appropriate, customary additives with a water content of at least 60% by weight, preferably 85 to 96% by weight, the water being masked by the effect of the lyotropic mesomorphism. This masking or immobilization of the water molecules prevents the water molecules from interfering with the polyol-isocyanate reaction, and is preferably carried out by the combined use of separating substances and suitable masking aids. In particular, fatty alcohol polyglycol ethers and ethoxylated fatty alcohols are proposed as suitable masking aids. The objects made of polyurethane foam obtained using the release agent described meet the usual quality requirements without causing the severe environmental pollution caused by the conventional release agents.
