Abstract
Abstract An infusion instrument comprises an infusion means for supplying intraocular irrigating solutions through an input (22) thereof, an infusion passage (23) thereof and an insertion end (24) thereof into an eyeball, an illumination including a light source (15) for illuminating an inside portion of the eyeball, and a light transmitting means having a first end (28) connected to the light source and a second end (25) for transmitting a light from the light source to the eyeball. At least the second end of the light transmitting means is arranged in the infusion passage.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
104 words
An infusion instrument for use in vitrectomy characterised by an infusion means for infusing intraocular irrigating solutions through an input end (22) thereof, an infusion passage (32, 23) thereof and an insertion end (24) thereof into an eyeball; an illumination unit including a light source (15) for illuminating an inside portion of the eyeball; and a light transmitting means having a first end (28) connected to the light source and a portion (30) leading to the eyeball for transmitting a light from the light source to the eyeball; at least a portion of the light transmitting means being arranged in the infusion passage (32).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
29 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that a majority (30) of the light transmitting means is placed within the infusion passage (32) of the infusion means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
18 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 2, characterised in that the light transmitting means is an optical fiber.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
24 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 3, characterised in that the optical fiber is composed of a single body without any joint portion thereof.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
29 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that the illumination unit includes a relay lens which guides a light from the light source into the optical fiber.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
29 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that only the second end of the light transmitting means is located within the insertion end of the infusion means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
26 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 6, characterised in that the insertion end of the infusion means has an inner surface of a high reflection rate.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
18 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 6, characterised in that the light transmitting means is an optical fiber.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
36 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the insertion end of the infusion means constitutes an extending portion of the second end of the light transmitting means through which the infusion passage extends.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
35 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 9, characterised in that the second end of the light transmitting means is coated with a material having a smaller reflection rate than that of the light transmitting means.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
32 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 9, characterised in that the insertion end of the infusion means is provided with a tube having a flange portion to be sutured to the eyeball.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
26 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 11, characterised in that the tube is made of a material for shielding light coming from the light transmitting means.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
28 words
An instrument as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the second end of the light transmitting means is placed within the infusion passage of the infusion means.
