Abstract

Abstract According to a portable medium (IC card) of this invention, a memory area is divided into a system program area (4a) and a user program area (4b). A text transmitted between the IC card and a host system (l0) connected thereto includes a command text and a response text. The command or response text includes a flag indicating that the text is written in the user program area or the system program area. The memory area (43) has a conversion table for a function code and the start address of a program corresponding to the function code. The conversion table is looked up using the given function code as a parameter, thereby obtaining the start address of the corresponding program. The memory area (43) has a correspondence table between a newly added function code and the start address of an added function program. The added function program is selectively executed.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 96 words
A portable electronic device comprising: a control central processing unit (3); first memory means (4a, 4b, 45) having a first storage area for storing a control program for a function which is provided during a manufacturing process and is used commonly for various applications, and a second storage area for storing a control program for a function added individually; second memory means (4c, 43) for storing data; and a contact section (2) fcr receiving an operating power source for said portable electronic device from an external device and performing data input/output operation with the external device.
Claim 3
Independent Claim 102 words
A device according to claim l, further comprising means for creating a text having information indicating whether a text sent from a host system connected to said portable electronic device is to be written in said second storage area (a user program command text) or in said first storage area (a system program command text); and second means for creating a text which has information indicating whether the text is a response text for the user program command text or a response text for the system program command text, and which is sent from said portable electronic device to said host system.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 44 words
A device according to claim 2, characterized in that said memory means are constituted by a first memory (4a, 4b, 45) in which said first and second storage areas are formed, and a second memory (4c, 43) in which a data area is formed.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 55 words
A device according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that the command text has a start code field, a text length field, a command field, and a check code, and a predetermined bit of the command code is used as the information indicating the user program command text or the system program command text.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 68 words
A device according to claim l or 2, characterized in that the response text consists of a start code field, a text length field, a command field, a status field, a data field, and a check code field, and a predetermined bit of the command field is used as information indicating that the response text is for the user program command text or the system program command text.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 70 words
A device according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that the response text consists of a start code field, a text length field, a command field, a status field, a data field, and a check code field, and a predetermined bit of the command field is used as the information indicating that the response text is for the user program command text or for the system program command text.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 35 words
A device according to claim l, characterized in that said second memory means (43) stores data which can obtain storage addresses of the respective function programs and their function codes in a corresponding manner, respectively.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 48 words
A device according to claim 7, characerized by further comprising means (3) for receiving the function code sent from the host system connected to said portable electronic device, looking up the correspondence table stored in said data memory, and executing the function program corresponding to the function code.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 44 words
A device according to claim 8, characterized in that there is further provided program memory registration means (3) for registering the function program to be written in said program memory means in response to function program write instruction data supplied from the host system.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 129 words
l0. A device according to claim 9, characterized in that said data memory (43) stores data which can obtain a final address of the function programs in a predetermined area, the function program write instruction data consists of a function code field in which a function code indicating the function program to be written is written, a field in which the function program to be written is written, and a field in which a size of the function program to be written is written, and said program memory registration means judges in accordance with the final address of the programs written in said data memory and the size of the program to be written if the function program to be written can be stored in said program memory means.
Claim 12
