Abstract A method for producing a flaky material having various uses for improvements on paints, cosmetics, plastics, etc. and also having a use as a powdery material of ceramics or single crystals, which comprises (i) supplying a controlled amount of a base liquid selected from the group consisting of liquid metallic compounds and the solutions and sols of metallic compounds to a travelling smooth substrate using apparatus capable of forming liquid films to form a controlled thin film on the substrate, or (ii) once coating a base liquid selected from the group consisting of liquid metallic compounds and the solutions and sols of metallic compounds onto a travelling smooth substrate and regulating the thickness of the coating film to form a thin film, and then (iii) solidifying the formed thin film to turn it into a flaky material, followed by stripping the flaky material from the substrate.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
41 words
A method for producing a flaky material according to Claim 1 wherein the travelling smooth substrate is at least one member selected from the group consisting of the form of roll, form of belt, form of sheet and form of film.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
36 words
A method for producing a flaky material according to Claim 1 wherein the apparatus for forming the controlled thin film on the travelling smooth substrate is a combination of a metering pump and a slit nozzle.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
34 words
A method for producing a flaky material according to Claim 1 wherein the apparatus for forming the controlled thin film on the travelling smooth substrate comprises one roll to a plural number of rolls.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
45 words
A method for producing a flaky material according to Claim 1 wherein the apparatus for forming the controlled thin film on the travelling smooth substrate is a combination of a roll and either one of an air knife, bar coater, metering roll or doctor blade.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
