Abstract
Abstract In a parking aid device for motor vehicles having a transmitter/receiver arranged on the outside of the vehicle for a transmission signal which is emitted at least approximately perpendicularly and resulting reflex signal, the transmitter emits the transmission signal in a small angular range. The reflex signal is fed to a comparison device which receives, as a further input variable, a variable which is characteristic of the path covered. In this way, the size of a parking space can be estimated in relation to the length of the motor vehicle itself. <IMAGE>
