Abstract The invention relates to catalyst particles of an active mass of the general formula [Mo,V,W]12Bia[Fe,Ce]b[Ni,Co,Zn]c[alkali]d[P,As,Sb,B]e[Si,Al,Ti]f Ox in which a is 0.1 to 5, b is 0.1 to 10, c is 1 to 15, d is 0.01 to 2, e is 0 to 2, f is 0 to 30 and x is the number of oxygen atoms required for saturating the valencies of the other components. <??>The catalyst particles are characterised in that they have the form of a 3- to 5-spoke wheel or of a rosette, having wall thicknesses of 0.5 to 4 mm and a diameter of 3 to 20 mm. <IMAGE>
