Abstract

Abstract In a softpack-type cigarette packet, a pile of cigarettes is forced into a rectangular parallelepipedal wrapper (15) consisting of a composite foil cut-out whose edges overlap to form envelope folds and are bonded together by heat sealing. For ease of opening, an essentially U-shaped line of weakness (16, 16', 26) is provided in the wrapper material. Said line bounds a region of the wrapper in the vicinity or on the edge of the opening face (18) of the wrapper and is located on the surface of the smaller lateral face (17) of the wrapper parallel to the longitudinal direction of the cigarettes. A preferably self-adhesive opening tab (19, 23-25, 28), permanently bonded to the wrapper (15), is located inside the region bounded by the line of weakness (16, 16', 26). To open the packet, the edge of the opening tab (19, 23-25, 28) is pulled, thereby rupturing the line of weakness (16, 16', 26). The packet can be temporarily reclosed by replacing the opening tab (19, 23-25, 28) in its original position. A thinner wrapper material can be used, if it consists of a composite film (31) comprising two layers (16, 16', 26) connected to the larger lateral faces (34) of the wrapper only along the lines of weakness (16, 16', 26).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 286 words
A softpack-type cigarette carton in which a multilayer pile of cigarettes is wrapped in a packaging foil blank consisting of a composite foil containing an aluminium foil to form a substantially parallelepipedal wrapper which is in direct contact with the cigarettes, the edges of which blank overlap each other and in so doing form an envelope fold at least on one of the smaller lateral faces of the wrapper, and with a wrapper opening face which runs perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the cigarettes, and also with an opening tab attached to the wrapper, characterised in that on the wrapper (15) the overlapping edges of the packaging foil blank, which is provided with a decorative print, are at least for the most part connected together by heat seals, that a line of weakness (16, 16', 26) is provided in the composite foil (6, 31) of the wrapper (15), which line of weakness runs in a partial region inside one of the smaller lateral faces (17) of the wrapper which are parallel to the longitudinal direction of the cigarettes or on the edge of this lateral face of the wrapper towards the opening face (18) of the wrapper and which ends at two points on or in the vicinity of the edge of the opening face (18) of the wrapper or crosses said edge, and that the opening tab (19, 23-25, 28) is permanently glued to the wrapper surface inside a region or the wrapper surface which is enclosed by the line of weakness (16, 16', 26), and in so doing lies at least in part against the said smaller lateral face (17) of the wrapper which is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the cigarettes.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 38 words
A cigarette carton according to Claim 1, characterised in that the opening tab (19, 23-25, 28) is not connected to the wrapper surface on an edge regions (21, 29) remote from the opening face (18) of the wrapper.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 67 words
A cigarette carton according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that, as well as within said smaller lateral faces (17) of the wrapper which are parallel to the longitudinal directions of the cigarettes, the line of weakness (16, 26) also runs within at least one of the two adjoining larger lateral faces (34) of the wrapper which are parallel to the longitudinal direction of the cigarettes.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 59 words
A cigarette carton according to Claim 3, characterised in that a middle region of the line of weakness (16) runs within said smaller lateral face (17) of the wrapper which is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the cigarettes underneath the opening tab (19, 23-25) and on two end regions on the large lateral faces (34) of the wrapper.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 70 words
A cigarette carton according to one of Claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the composite foil (31) has a layer (32), optionally formed by paper or a paper composite, which lies against the cigarettes and which is not connected to the adjoining layer (32) of the composite foil (31) over partial sections of its surface which are located outside the points of the lines of weakness (16, 16', 26).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
A cigarette carton according to Claim 5, characterised in that said partial sections lie at least in part on the two large lateral faces (34) of the wrapper.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 33 words
A method for producing a carton according to one of Claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the opening tab (24) is connected to the composite foil (6) before the wrapper is formed.
