Abstract
Abstract A protective device (2) for a re-usable syringe (4) comprising a tubular sheath (8) mounted on the syringe barrel (10) for reciprocal movement between an extended position wherein it covers the hypodermic needle (6) connected to the syringe, and a retracted position wherein the needle is exposed. The sheath has a plurality of longitudinal grooves (64,66,70,78) to receive corresponding longitudinal ribgs (52,56,60,25) on the barrel. The sheath has access openings (88,90) to enable to user to reach in and unscrew the hub of the needle assembly from the syringe barrel.
