Claim 1
Independent Claim 59 words
A method for a determination of an ion concentration, specific gravity, or osmotic pressure of a solution, which comprises causing to contact a solution under test with a coloring substances formed of a pigment or precursor of pigment having resolubility correlated with the ion concentration of said solution and detecting the solubility of said coloring substance in said solution.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 59 words
A method for a determination of an ion concentration, specific gravity, or osmotic pressure of a solution, which comprises causing to contact a solution under test with a coloring substances formed of a pigment or precursor of pigment having resolubility correlated with the ion concentration of said solution and detecting the solubility of said coloring substance in said solution.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein said coloring substance is a pigment possessing an ionically functional group.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein said detection of the solubility of said coloring substance formed of said pigment is accomplished by the determination of the absorbance of said solution.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 51 words
A method according to claim 1, wherein said detection of the solubility of said coloring substance formed of said precursor of pigment is accomplished by adding a developer to said solution thereby causing a coloring reaction of said solution and determining the absorbance of the solution resulting from said coloring reaction.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 40 words
A method according to claim 4, wherein said coloring substance formed of said precursor of pigment is a phenol compound or an aniline compound and said developer is an oxidation condensation coloring type compound or a diazo coupling type compound.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 103 words
An apparatus for a determination of an ion concentration, specific gravity, or osmotic pressure of a solution, which comprises a reagent layer having carried thereon a pigment having solubility correlated with the ion concentration in said solution and a spreading layer disposed contiguously to said reagent layer and adapting said two layers to allow the amount of said pigment dissolved out of said reagent layer into said spreading layer to be varied proportionately to the ion concentration of said solution under test and enable the ion concentration to be reflected in the density of color developed on the surface of said spreading layer.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 103 words
An apparatus for a determination of an ion concentration, specific gravity, or osmotic pressure of a solution, which comprises a reagent layer having carried thereon a pigment having solubility correlated with the ion concentration in said solution and a spreading layer disposed contiguously to said reagent layer and adapting said two layers to allow the amount of said pigment dissolved out of said reagent layer into said spreading layer to be varied proportionately to the ion concentration of said solution under test and enable the ion concentration to be reflected in the density of color developed on the surface of said spreading layer.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 18 words
An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said pigment is a water-soluble pigment possessing an ionically functional group.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 19 words
An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said reagent layer comprises a water-permeable carrier and a pigment deposited thereon.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 16 words
An apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said carrier is a filter paper or a cloth.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 39 words
An apparatus according to claim 8 or claim 9, wherein said reagent layer is formed by having adsorptively dispersed in conjunction with a polymeric material on a carrier a pigment per se or a pigment adsorbed on minute particles.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 29 words
An apparatus according to claim 10, wherein said polymeric material is at least one member selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and gelatin.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 29 words
An apparatus according to claim 10, wherein said minute particles are those of at least one member selected from the group consisting of sellaite, silica gel, polyamide, and alumina.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 17 words
An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said spreading layer is a filter paper or a cloth.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 18 words
An apparatus according to claim 13, wherein said spreading layer incorporates therein a surfactant or a wetting agent.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 32 words
An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said spreading layer contains a stated amount of a salt to be used for the adjustment of the range of ion concentration subjected to determination.
Claim 18
Independent Claim 40 words
An apparatus for the determination of the ion concentration, specific gravity, or osmotic pressure of a solution, which apparatus is formed by having a testing implement set forth in any of claims 6 to 15 deposited on a supporting member.
