Optical matrix
Abstract
3.1 Anwendung in Neuronalen Netzen oder Verteilnetzen 2.1 In the case of optical switching matrices in which first waveguides (eW i ) are crossed by second waveguides (zW j ) and in each crossing point a switchable optical coupler (K ij ) is arranged, which has a power component of an optical wave guided in one waveguide in the other decouples, there is the problem that conventional electro-optical switching principles allow matrices with only a few, about 8x8 inputs and outputs for various reasons. Such a switching matrix should now be able to be implemented in the smallest space, for example 100x100 or more optical couplers. 2.2 For this purpose, each optical coupler (K ij ) has a deliberately low degree of coupling, which is smaller than the reciprocal (1 / N) of the number (N) of the outputs of the matrix. The low degree of decoupling is only apparently a disadvantage. Rather, there are a number of advantages. Such a matrix can also be implemented with non-switchable couplers. 3.1 Use in neural networks or distribution networks
