Abstract
Abstract High definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) video signals can be recorded with the usage of one signal digital VTR without further hardware. There are provided input circuits for SD and HD signals and output circuits for SD and HD signals. The encoder and recording circuits as well as playback and decoding circuits are used in common. In addition, a circuit for identifying whether the input is an SD or HD signal is provided. The recorded track pattern is identical in both modes. Simultaneous recording of a plurality of SD signals and high-speed dubbing of SD signals may be executed.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
153 words
An apparatus comprising: first receiving means for receiving a first signal; first encoding means for encoding an output of the first receiving means and converting its corresponding identification mark produced for indicating the first signal into a code form by an optimum manner for recording; first recording means for recording an output in a given time of the first encoding means onto a recording medium in the form of record patterns; second receiving means for receiving a second signal which carries less data than the first signal; second encoding means for encoding an output of the second receiving means and converting its corresponding identification mark produced for indicating the second signal into a code form by an optimum manner for recording; and second recording means for recording an output in a given time of the second encoding means onto a recording medium in the same record pattern form as of the first signal.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
65 words
An apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the first encoding means comprises an N-number of the second encoding means, the first recording means comprises an M-number of the second recording means, and a selecting means is further provided for selectively transmitting outputs of the second receiver means to some or all of the M-number of the second encoding means included in the first encoding means.
Claim 3
Independent Claim
83 words
An apparatus comprising: playback means for receiving a playback signal and performing a reverse of the recording operation; identifying means for identifying whether the playback signal is a first or second signal from its data; and reproducing means for if the identifying means indicates the playback signal is a first signal, combining outputs of the playback means into the first signal and if the identifying means indicates the playback signal is a second signal, retrieving the second signal directly from the playback means.
Claim 4
Independent Claim
131 words
An apparatus comprising: first receiving means for receiving a first signal; second receiving means for receiving a second signal which carries less data than the first signal; selecting means for selecting either an output of the first receiving means or an output of the second receiving means; encoding means for encoding an output of the selecting means and converting its corresponding identification mark produced for indicating the output is a first or second signal into a code form by an optimum manner for recording; and recording means for recording an output in a given time of the encoding means onto a recording medium in the form of record patterns if it is the first signal and if the second signal in the same record pattern form as of the first signal.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
79 words
An apparatus comprising: playback/receiving means for processing a playback signal, which is reproduced from its recorded form, and a received signal, which is transmitted from the outside, by a reverse of the recording and transmitting operations respectively; and switching means for if the playback/receiving means delivers a first signal, transmitting the first signal directly to the output and if a group of second signals, feeding it to a distributing means where it is divided into the discrete second signals.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
55 words
An apparatus comprising: switching means for allowing a playback/receiving means to process a second signal recorded previously as a first signal; error correction decoding means for correcting errors contained in a playback signal from the switching means; and dubbing output means for delivering an output of the error correction decoding means as the dubbing output.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
49 words
An apparatus according to Claim 6, further comprising error detecting means for detecting extra errors which have failed to be corrected by the error correction decoding means and error concealment means for concealing the uncorrected errors by interpolation with a replacement of decoded correct data introduced by signal correlation.
