Abstract

Abstract The invention concerns a resource management system, comprising a plurality of servers (14,16), each serving one or more Personal Computers (PCs) (1). The system also comprises means for allowing each PC (1) to store one or more profiles, detailing the contents of one or more resources (3,4,6,15), in the server (14,16) serving that PC (1). The system further comprises means for allowing the user of each PC (1) to search the profiles stored in all of the servers within the system, thus enabling the user of each PC (1) to search through the contents of all of the resources (3,4,6,15), within the system. The system further comprises means for allowing the user of a server (14,16) to download from other servers, resources which are downloadable, and means for launching a program, after downloading, which displays the downloaded resource (3,4,6,15) in its intended format.

A method of managing computer data, characterized by the following steps: a) storing data in SERVERs (14,16) located at multiple sites; b) downloading data from a sending SERVER (14,16) to a receiving SERVER (14,16); c) upon downloading, causing the receiving SERVER (14,16) to examine the downloaded data for indica of a generating program; and d) if said indicia are found, searching for the generating program.
