Abstract
Abstract A recording medium includes a porous ink-receiving layer whose main components are an alumina hydrate having a boehmite structure, and a binder. The ink-receiving layer contains voids which communicate with the surface of the ink-receiving layer through pores having radii smaller than the radii of the voids. An image forming method forms an image by providing the recording medium with ink droplets. <IMAGE>

Claim 1
Independent Claim
52 words
A recording medium comprising: a porous ink-receiving layer having a surface, and comprising an alumina hydrate having a boehmite structure, and a binder, wherein said ink-receiving layer contains voids having radii and which communicate with the surface of said ink-receiving layer through pores having radii smaller than the radii of the voids.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
24 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein the radii of the voids are at least 1.5 times of the radii of the pores.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
28 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein a distribution of the radii of the pores has its largest peak within a range of 2.0 - 20.0 nm.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
22 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein the radii of the voids are within a range of 50.0 - 200.0 nm.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
25 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein the pores of said ink-receiving layer have a volume within a range of 0.4 - 1.0 ml/g.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
25 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, where the pores of said ink-receiving layer have a volume within a range of 0.4 - 0.6 ml/g.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
31 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein pores having radii of 2.0 - 20.0 nm make up at least 80 % by volume of all pores in the ink-receiving layer.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
23 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein the voids make up between 1 to 10 % of said ink-receiving layer, by volume.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
26 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein an amount of water absorption of said ink-receiving layer is within a range of 0.4 - 1.0 ml/g.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
24 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein an in-plane diffusion coefficient of said ink-receiving layer is within a range of 0.7 - 1.0.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
44 words
A recording medium according to Claim 1, wherein an ink-absorbing time period of said ink-receiving layer, when performing printing with 30 ng of ink at a density of 16 x 16 dots per mm 2 , is less than or equal to 400 msec.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
