Method and device for the acquisition and recording of the coordinates of a point in space
Abstract
Abstract The method and device determines the coordinates defining the position of a point in space or in a plane. A stylus 11 enables a wave 16, 17, which may be ultrasonic, to be transmitted from the point. At the same time, counting is initiated on a counter 18, 19 supplied with a time base 47. Two suitably placed receivers 31', 32' receive the wave, while two counters 18 and 19 measure the time taken for the wave to travel over its path in air between its transmission from the point to be determined and its reception at each of the receivers. These times are proportional to the distance between each receiver and the point in question. They are collected by a digital computer and processed for conversion into analogue signals giving the required coordinates of the point. Application to the production of a graphics reader usable in computer-aided design.
