Abstract
Abstract 299,784. Siemens & Halske Akt.- Ges., (Assignees of Schenkel, K.). Oct. 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Electrodes; carbon electrodes, making absorbents.- Plates consisting of a layer of carbon and a layer of de. polarizer such as manganese dioxide joined together by pressure are provided with a stiffening device made by pressing on to the surface of the depolarizer a supporting or reinforcing medium. The stiffener may comprise a layer of linen or perforated paper which may also serve to absorb the electrolyte. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the stiffener may also consist of a layer of graphite which surrounds the edges of the depolarizer, or as shown in the drawing (Cancelled), the graphite G may also extend over one face of the depolarizer D. The depolarizer may also be stiffened by means of a binding medium such as rosin which is first mixed with graphite and the mixture heated to melt the rosin. The mass is then powdered and mixed with the manganese dioxide forming the depolarizer. The mixture is heated and pressed into shape. Plaster of paris may be used for the same purpose; this is mixed in the dry state with the depolarizer and water then added. A substance such as glue may be dissolved in the water to delay the setting of the plaster. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
