Improvements in or relating to electric cables
Abstract
Abstract 802,484. Cables. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 28, 1955 [July 28, 1954], No. 21884/55. Addition to 743,325. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. A conductive, corrosion-preventing covering for a metal-sheathed cable consists of an isobutylene-polymer mixture or composition having a high carbon black and/or graphite content and containing a small proportion of a vulcanized or equivalently cross-linked substance. Polyisobutylene may be mixed with between 2 and 10 parts by weight for each 100 parts polyisobutylene of natural or synthetic rubber, or isoprene or butadiene may be copolymerized with isobutylene. The vulcanization of the mixture or composition may be carried out before or during the introduction of the carbon black or graphite. The covering may be agglutinated with the sheath by means of a liquid hydrocarbon capable of diffusion, or by softening by infra-red irradiation before application in the form of wound-on strips.
