Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To select a MODEM adapted to communication without communication between an originating terminal and a terminating terminal neither MODEM check by providing an originating-side MODEM type discriminating means, a MODEM selecting means, and a terminating terminal connecting means. CONSTITUTION:When an ISDN address is sent through a first electronic exchange 11, a second electronic exchange 16 receives an incoming subaddress and reads out the MODEM type of the MODEM connected to the first electronic exchange 11 as the originating station from this incoming subaddress. A central processing unit 22 reads out the MODEM type of one of MODEMs 17 and 18 connected to its own electronic exchange 16 from a main storage device 21 and checks whether this MODEM type coincides with the MODEM type of the originating side or not, and the MODEM type of the other MODEM is read out if they do not coincide with each other. When they coincide with each other, a terminating terminal 19 is connected through an incoming trunk circuit and the pertinent MODEM. Thus, it is unnecessary to preliminarily determine the MODEM type between the other party of communication.
