Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To prevent the lowering of the head characteristic dependent upon shape effect without bringing a considerable cost rise by enlarging the width of a magnetic layer except the edge opposite to the magnetic medium more than the track width and increasing the magnetic path sectional area. CONSTITUTION: In the second magnetic substance layer 10, face part 10c opposite to the magnetic medium has required track width B and has a width wider than required track width B from connection part C for the first magnetic substance layer 9 through step part 10b up to the part near step part 10a and has a width narrower toward face part 10c opposite to the magnetic medium from tha part near step part 10a, and the first magnetic substance layer 9 has the same shape. Consequently, the increment for track width B is set properly by this constitution, so that the lowering of permeability dependent upon the existence of step parts 10a and 10b and the edge face effect of connection edge part C can be cancelled by the increment of the magnetic path sectional area approximately.
