Rack-and-pinion type steering gear
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain smoothly resisting feeling in a vicinity of the neutral position of a steering wheel and as well to improve controllability of a rack-and- pinion type steering gear by changing the transmission ratio between a rack and a pinion so that the ratio is increased and decreased in the left and right ranges of the neutral position, as a reference, of the steering wheel, respectively. CONSTITUTION:The pattern of variable gear ratio is such that the gear ratio is gradually decreased from the vicinity of the neutral position AA' of a steering wheel to positions AB, A'B' to which the steering wheel is slightly turned. Further, when the steering wheel is much more turned, the gear ratio is gradually increased in accordance with the rotating angle of the steering wheel. The gear ratio is set at a value greatly larger than that of the neutral position in the ranges of the deeply turned position to the right and left lock positions BC, B'C'.
