Production of microporous toner
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To produce a microporous toner which is fixed by low pressures by cooling mixed solns. contg. a synthetic thermoplastic polymer, liquid compatible with this and a coloring agent, separating thermodynamical nonequilibrium liquid phase, and further cooling the same to solidify then separating the liquid. CONSTITUTION:A mixture contg. a synthetic thermoplastic polymer (e.g.; PE, PP, etc.) liquid having compatibility with this polymer (e.g.; decanoic acid, etc.) and a coloring agent is heated at the temp. and time sufficient for formation of homogeneous solns., whereby the mixed solns. are obtained. These mixed solns. are cooled at a sufficient speed and temp. to separate thermodynamical nonequilibrium liquid phase, and further these are cooled to solidify. The compatible soln. is extracted away by using a solvent (e.g.; ethanol, etc.), and the resultant microporous substance is ground and classified to select about 5-30mu grains, whereby the microporous toner is produced. A small amt. of hydrophobic colloidal silica is mixed with this toner, whereby the developer is obtained.
