Original size detector for copying machine

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To enable detection of an original size with less parts and high reliability by obtaining information on both vertical and horizontal directions of the original with an independent original detector and moving and scanning said detector in a diagonal direction thereby judging the size and disposition of the original. CONSTITUTION:An original detector 7 provided flatly in a platen cover moves along a guiding rail 8, is constituted of a light emitting element 7A, a photodetector 7B and a light shielding member 7C and inputs an on-off signal to a control part 13. The detector 7 is constituted of a belt 9, a motor 10 and pulleys 11a, 11b and is detected by photoswitches 12p, 12q, 12r. An alternate long and short dash line PQ is the centerline of the guiding rail and is the moving range of the center of the detector 7. The point R is a reference point. The information on the vertical and horizontal directions of the original is obtd. from about how much the detector 7 moves from the point R, by which the size of the original and the disposing condition thereof are judged.
