Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve productivity and workability by bringing a mask having plural pieces of microapertures into tight contact with the surface of a plate- shaped porous glass body and penetrating an aq. soln. of dopant through the microapertures into the glass then subjecting the glass to a prescribed treatment. CONSTITUTION:Plate-shaped borosilicate glass which permits phase sepn. is subjected to a heat treatment under prescribed conditions, by which said glass is separated to the phase rich with SiO2 and the phase rich with alkali metal oxide and B2O3. Such glass plate is pickled and the plate-shaped porous glass body consisting of the phase rich with SiO2 as skeleton and having open cells is obtd. A mask 3 having plural microapertures 2 is then brought into tight contact with the surface of the body 1 and an aq. dopant soln. is penetrated into the glass through the apertures 2 and thereafter the glass is dipped in a solvent having low dopant solubility to have parts 4 where the dopant is diffused by having a concn. gradient. Such glass body 1 is dried and is further heat treated to crush the fine holes. The flat plate lens array arranged with microlenses 5 of a distributed index type in the glass plate 6 is thus manufactured.
