Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:An emulsion is obtained using a polymerizable vinyl monomer, a lipophilic emulsifier, hydrophilic a emulsifier, and water and the monomer is polymerized to produce a not-film-forming emulsion which gives coating films with high opacifying power, good luster and high weather resistance, when it is added to a coating. CONSTITUTION:A polymerizable vinyl monomer such as methyl (meth) acrylate or hexyl vinyl ether, a lipophilic emulsifier of less than 13 HLB, e.g., sorbitol monooleate, a hydrophilic emulsifier of more than 13 HLB, e.g., alkali alkylbenzene-fulfonate and water are used to prepare a W/O/W type complex emulsion, then the monomer is polymerized to give a resin emulsion with fine pores inside. The emulsifiers are preferably used in a proportion of 1-30wt.% of lipophilic and less than 5% of hydrophilic one based on the vinyl monomer.
