Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce a time required for detection of a position, by grouping a pair of magnetostriction conducting media adjacent to each other in one set and by executing detection of positions simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:Magnetostriction conducting media 11a1 etc. are arranged in appropriate numbers substantially in parallel to one another, and first coils 12a1 etc. are wound around the end parts on one side thereof and connected to a pulse current generator 14 through a first multiplexer (MP) 13. Moreover, second coils 16a1 are wound around the media 11a1 etc. and connected to a processing device 18 through second MP 17. When a pulse current is impressed on coils 12a1 and 12a2, a magnetostrictive vibration wave is generated in media 11a1 and 11a2 simultaneously and propagated therethrough. When a steady-state magnetic field is given to the medium 11a1 by a position indicator 19p on the occasion, a large induced voltage is generated in the second coil 16a1 at the position, and a time passing from the point of time of impression of the pulse current to the generation of the large induced voltage is measured. After the operation of a first set of media 11a1 etc. is ended and a prescribed time passes, the same operation is conducted sequentially with respect to each set of media 11b1 etc., and thereby positions can be detected in a reduced time.
