Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To make chemical formation charging efficient and prolong the life compatibly by forming an electrode plate for lead-acid battery by the use of a paste consisting of lead oxide powder containing minium and metal lead, water, and sulfuric acid as major components. CONSTITUTION:A paste type positive electrode plate for lead-acid battery is formed from a powder, in which metal lead coexists with minium and lead oxide. Coexistence of metal lead enhances the bond of the paste active substance remarkably at the time of minium addition through reaction of the sulfuric acid with air and water, and a minium powder with a miniumation ratio around 10-70% attained in the process of miniumation from oxidated lead powder of high degree of oxidation can prolong the life compared with one in which metal lead is merely mixed. The metal lead powder content of the lead powder shall satisfactorily be 1% or more, but the range from 20 to 30% gives a well balanced relation between the life and initial characteristics. This makes the chemical formation charging efficient and prolongs the life compatibly.
