Abstract A PROCESS FOR PREPARING 16-UNSATURATED STEROIDS FROM 17A-HYDROXY STEROIDS OF THE PREGNANE SERIES BY HEATING THE 17A-ACYLOXY DERIVATIVE WITH A METAL SALT OF A LOWER ALKANOIC OR AROMATIC ACID IN A POLAR ORGANIC SOLVENT. A NOVEL COMPOUND, PREGNA-1,4,16-TRIENE-3,20-DION-11B,21DIOL DIACETATE IS DISCLOSED. THE ADRENOCORTICAL STEROIDS PRODUCED HAVE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND ANTI-ALLERGENIC PROPERTIES.
