Abstract
Abstract Sulfonazide isocyanate compounds of the formula (N3O2S-xR-NCO)y WHERE R is a polyvalent aliphatic radical and x and y are integers from 1 to 10 are used to adhere polymers to substrates selected from siliceous materials, metals and other polymer substrates. Rubber tires are reinforced with polyester tire cord which has been modified with a sulfonazide-isocyanate compound.

In a process of adhering fibrous polyester reinforcing material to rubber stock, the improvement of first contacting said reinforcing material with a sulfonazide-isocyanate compound having the formula (N3O2S x-R- NCO)y wherein R is a polyvalent aliphatic radical and x and y are integers from 1 to 100 and heating the thus contacted material to a temperature sufficient to cause substantial decomposition of the sulfonazide groups on the sulfonazide-isocyanate compound.
