Abstract
Abstract The esterification of a polycarboxylic acid with a polyol is described under conditions of direct esterification and wherein the reacting mass is a flowable, uniform dispersion of (1) a paste of the said polycarboxylic acid and the said polyol, and (2) at least 3 parts by weight per part paste of a partially esterified product of said polycarboxylic acid with said polyol.

A composition of matter susceptible to esterification and polycondensation to a high molecular weight linear polyester which comprises a uniform, flowable dispersion of (1) a paste of a polycarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, naphthalene dicarboxylic acid, and hydrogenated derivatives thereof and ethylene glycol and (2) at least about 40 to about 80 parts by weight per part paste of an about 74 percent to about 95 percent esterified product of said polycarboxylic acid with said glycol.
