Abstract A METHOD OF MAKING AN IMPACT RESISTANT COMPOSITE COMPRISING: COATING GLASS FIBERS WITH METAL, AND SOLIDIFYING A MATRIX OF GLASS AROUND THE METAL COATED GLASS FIBERS. THE COATING HAS A THICKNESS BETWEEN 0.00005 AND 0.001 INCH, THE FIBERS ARE ARRANGED IN A GENERALLY PARALLED MAN- NER IN WHICH THE FIBERS OCCUPY FROM APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 70 PERCENT OF THE VOLUME AND THE GLASS HAS A SOFTENING POINT BELOW THE MELTING POING OF THE METAL COATING.
