Abstract
Abstract A new class of phosphorescent and photochromic 2-aryl-5,10diphenylphenanthro(9,10-d)azoles of the formula WHEREIN A is imino (-NH-) or oxygen (-O-), R is a carbocyclic aryl group of not more than 3 benzene rings (phenyl, biphenylyl, naphthyl), and which may carry inert substituents such as alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, nitro, etc; are useful in phosphorescent and photochromic compositions.
