Abstract
Abstract Acetophenone compounds have been found useful as photosensitizers in radiation curable coating compositions. The novel photosensitizers of this invention contain the structural group IN WHICH R is an alkyl or aryl group and R'' is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl.

In the method for curing curable monomeric and polymeric compositions by radiation with non-ionizing radiation, the improvement wherein the photosensitizer present in said compositions is a compound of the formula: wherein R is alkyl of from one to eight carbon atoms or aryl of six ring carbon atoms and R'' is hydrogen, alkyl of from one to eight carbon atoms, aryl of from six to 14 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl of five to eight ring carbon atoms; said photosensitizer being present in said composition at a concentration of from 0.01 to 20 weight per cent.
