Abstract AN IMPROVED SURFACE DEFORMABLE IMAGING PROCESS IS DISCLOSED. A DISTINCT HUMIDITY INSENSITIVE LAYER COMPRISING A POLAR MATERIAL AND HAVING A THICKNESS OF UP TO ABOUT 0.3 MICRON (U) IS DEPOSITED ON THE SURFACE OF A THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITION. AN ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE PATTERN IS PRODUCED ON THE COATED SURFACE OF THE THERMOPLASTIC. WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOFTENING ENVIRONMENT THE SURFACE OF THE THERMOPLASTIC DEFORMS IN AN IMAGEWISE MANNER CORRESPONDING TO THE CHARGE PATTERN.
