Abstract

Abstract In a method for preparing a glass batch using caustic soda solution as the main source of Na2O for the glass, silica and other solid glass raw materials are first admixed and then the caustic soda solution is fed to the mixture. Preheated glass cullet is added to the mixture during the mixing operation, so that the water from the caustic soda solution is evaporated to provide a glass batch which is easily melted and refined and also is easily handled. Preferably, hot gas containing carbon dioxide is supplied during the mixing operation.
