Abstract NICKELIFEROUS OR COBALTIFEROUS LATERITIC ORES ARE SEPARATED INTO LIMONITIC AND SILICATE FRACTIONS, AND THE LIMONITIC FRACTION IS PRESSURE LEACHED WITH AN AQUEOUS SULFURIC ACID SOLUTION TO PROVIDE A PARTIALLY-LOADED LEACH SOLUTION WHILE THE NICKEL OR COBALT VALUES IN THE SILICATE FRACTION ARE SELECTIVELY REDUCED AND THEN LEACHED WITH THE PARTIALLY-LOADED LEACH SOLUTION TO PROVIDE A PREGNANT SOLUTION FROM WHICH NICKEL OR COBALT ARE RECOVERED.
