Abstract

Abstract This invention consists of the preparation of durable-press fabrics with basic moieties crosslinked into the fabric. As a consequence of these basic moieties, these fabrics can now absorb acidic optical brighteners. Heretofore, crosslinked cotton fabrics showed poor absorption characteristics for acidic optical brighteners. This fabric basicity is achieved by the use of reactive alcohol additives containing amine groups such as diethanolamine, triethanolamine, monoethanolamine, and 2dimethylaminoethanol.
