Abstract

Abstract An adaptor for a water tap which is adapted to give both stream flow and spray flow in differing positions of the adaptor providing automatic return to first position when water is shut off thus insuring stream flow when water is turned on. The valve means has a movable valve member which is movable between two differing positions co-operative with the hydraulic force of the water and which causes minimum restriction for low pressure water flow in either valve position, the valve member returning by force of gravity or being assisted by a spring from spray position to stream flow position when the water is shut off. The valve member is operated without external lever and projections with two options of manipulation either by pushing the valve stem upwardly for spray flow or by squeezing the body rim for the same spray flow.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 231 words
An adaptor for a water tap comprising: a. a body having a water passage therethrough terminating in an open inlet end adapted to be connected to an outlet of a water tap, and an open outlet end portion, b. a spray plate having spray apertures and a valve hole therethrough, c. means supporting said spray plate within said outlet end portion to close the flow of water through said outlet end portion, except through said spray apertures and said valve hole, d. a solid housing ring mounted within said body spaced from said spray plate toward said inlet end, and spaced from said body to form a peripheral flow passage, e. a valve member haviNg a tubular stem slidably movable axially through said valve hole and having a solid flange projecting laterally from the periphery of said stem between said spray plate and said housing ring, f. said valve member being axially movable between a stream flow position in which said flange seats against said spray plate to block fluid flow through said spray apertures and to permit fluid flow between said flange and said housing ring and through said tubular stem, and a spray flow position in which said flange is seated against said housing ring to block fluid flow through said tubular stem and to permit flow between said flange and said spray plate and through said spray apertures.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 231 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
The invention according to claim 1 in which said valve hole is in the center of said spray plate, and said tubular stem depends from the center of said solid flange.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
The invention according to claim 2 in which said spray plate is annular and said solid flange is annular.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
The invention according to claim 1 in which said housing ring is above said spray plate, and said valve member is axially moved to stream flow position by gravity.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 19 words
The invention according to claim 1 further comprising spring means biasing said valve member toward said stream flow position.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
The invention according to claim 1 in which said valve member is held in either its stream flow position or in its spray flow position by the pressure of the water moving past said valve member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 16 words
The invention according to claim 1 in which said body member is made of flexible material.
