Abstract

Abstract A pushbutton switch assembly having a sliding block-type switch action wherein longitudinally displaceable pushbutton actuators selectively engage one or more of a plurality of spring-biased laterally displaceable members which may momentarily return the actuated pushbutton to its unactuated position. A projection having cam surfaces extends from each of the pushbutton actuators and engages matching cam surfaces on the spring-biased displaceable members which are positioned within the switch housing and spring biased to the coverplate of the switch housing. These members are laterally moved as a result of camming action by the pushbutton projection, with such lateral movement of the members releasing any previously depressed pushbutton actuators for return and also returning the member and its corresponding pushbutton actuator to the unactuated position.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 156 words
An electric switch including in combination, a housing having cover means with an open space, a plurality of fixed contacts mounted within said housing, a plurality of pushbutton actuators slidably mounted in said housing and having button portions extending out from said housing and having an actuator body portion having resiliently mounted contacts for selectively cooperating with the corresponding ones of said fixed contacts, a plurality of laterally displaceable members slidably positioned within said housing to be selectively engaged by one of said actuator body portions, at least one of said members having an extension arm molded integral to its side face and extending outwardly through said open space in said cover means, and resilient means secured to said extension arm and to said cover means such that when one of said pushbutton actuators is activated and engages said member to displace the same, said resilient means tends to return the same to its undisplaced position.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 156 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 20 words
The switch according to claim 1 wherein said cover means with an open space includes a coverplate having slots therein.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
The switch according to claim 2 wherein said coverplate having slots therein includes notches on the edge of said coverplate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 41 words
The switch according to claim 1 wherein said body portion of said pushbutton actuator includes a projection thereon, said projection engageable with one of said laterally displaceable members upon the longitudinal displacement of said pushbutton actuator to produce a camming action.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 37 words
The switch according to claim 4 wherein said laterally displaceable member includes a wedge shaped block having dimensional stability, said wedge surfaces engageable with one of said projections on said body portion to produce a camming action.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 21 words
The switch according to claim 1 wherein said extension arm is centrally positioned on said side face of said displaceable member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 14 words
The switch according to claim 1 wherein said resilient means is a metal spring.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 170 words
