Abstract
Abstract To join a pair of silicon nitride parts, a powdered glass containing silicon, aluminium, an alkaline earth metal and oxygen is provided on at least one of the parts to be joined. The powdered glass is then heated so as to produce molten glass between the parts whereby, on cooling, the glass provides a joint between the parts. The powdered glass can also contain silicon, manganese and oxygen, together with aluminium.
