Abstract

Abstract A disposable moisture-absorbent hand grip for a tennis racket handle. The grip includes a layer of tape spirally wound upwardly about the handle from the base of the handle, the outer side of the tape being covered with a pressure-sensitive glutinous composition. The upper end of the tape is adhesively secured to the handle. Spirally wound over the tape, and secured to the base of the handle by the same screw anchor as the tape, is a moisture-absorbent terry cloth strip having a relatively thin strip of material along the leading edge thereof. The successive spirals of the terry cloth overlap the thin strip of the previous spiral. The upper end of the terry cloth is secured against unwrapping by an elastic lanyard having hooks at either end which fit in an aperture at the end of the terry cloth strip. Edges of the terry cloth strip are tapered at each end thereof so the terry cloth spiral wrap terminates at each end with an edge perpendicular to the axis of the handle shaft.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 280 words
A sporting racket comprising a generally cylindrically shaped handle shaft and in combination with said racket a disposable hand grip assembly spirally wound on said handle shaft comprising a first strip of relatively bulky moisture-absorbent textile material, one longitudinal edge only of said first strip having attached thereto and running parallel to said edge a second strip of relatively thin non-bulky material having a width less than the width of said first strip and forming a leading edge of said first strip, reusable anchor means securing said first strip to the base of said handle shaft, said first strip being wound in a spiral upwardly about said handle from the base of said handle in a manner such that a portion of each succeeding spiral overlaps the preceding thin leading edge thereby forming a smooth gripping surface, and elastic lanyard means securing the upper end of said spiralled first strip from unwinding from said handle shaft, said lanyard being detachably secured at each end thereof to the upper end of said spiralled first strip. said hand grip assembly further comprising a tape strip having one side only thereof coated with a pressure-sensitive glutinous composition, said anchor means for anchoring said first strip at the base of said handle also securing one end of said tape to the base of said handle under said first stRip, said tape being spirally wound about said handle upwardly from said base with the glutinous side of said tape outward and under said first spiralled strip, to thereby additionally secure said first textile strip to said shaft and prevent shifting thereof, and means for securing the other end of said tape adhesively to said handle.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 280 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 181 words
A sporting racket as claimed in claim 1 wherein each end portion of said first strip is tapered on opposite longitudinal edges a length approximately equal to the circumference of said handle, said first strip thus being wound about said handle so that the lower and upper ends of the spiralled first strip terminate with the outer edges of the first strip perpendicular to the axis of the handle shaft, said first strip having apertures at each end thereof and whereon the anchoring means at the base of said handle comprises a machine screw which passes through one aperture in said first textile strip and through one end of said glutinous tape, said screw being secured transversely in an aperture in the base of said handle and an internally threaded pin inserted in the handle aperture and cooperating with said machine screw for anchoring, and wherein said elastic lanyard for securing the upper end of said first strip has a hook at each end thereof, each of said hooks passing through the aperture at the upper end of said first strip.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 306 words
A sporting racket comprising a generally cylindrically shaped handle shaft and in combination with said racket a disposable hand grip assembly comprising a strip of tape one end of which is anchored by anchoring means to the base of said handle, said tape having one side only thereof covered with a pressure-sensitive glutinous composition, said tape being spirally wound about said shaft upwardly from said base, the other end of said tape being adhesively secured to said handle at the end of said spiral winding of said tape, a first textile strip anchored to said shaft base with the same anchoring means as said tape, said first strip spirally wound about said handle upwardly from said base on top of said spirally wound tape, said first textile strip comprisng a relatively bulky moisture-absorbent textile material, said first strip having apertures at each end thereof with the anchoring means connected in one of said apertures at the shaft base, the upper longitudinal edge only of said spiralled first strip having a second strip comprised of relatively thin material of a width less than said first strip and of relatively lesser bulk than said moisture-absorbent textile material attached to and parallel to said edge of said first strip, and forming a leading edge thereof, a portion of each succeeding spiral of said first strip overlapping the leading edge of the preceding spiral, the upper end of said first strip being secured against unwinding by an elastic lanyard having hooks at each end thereof, a first of said hooks secured in the aperture at the upper end of said spiralled first strip and the lanyard wound about the handle over the last sprial of said first strip, and the second of said hooks of said lanyard placed in said upper aperture to thereby secure the first strip against unwinding.
