Abstract
Abstract Process and apparatus for sterilization of soft contact lenses by periodic, controlled exposure to germicidal ultraviolet radiation. An ultraviolet stabilizer is included in the hydrophilic gel material of the contact lens to prevent degradation thereof as a result of the UV exposure.

The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said stabilizer comprises an ultraviolet absorber having characteristics of preferential absorption of ultraviolet light and dissipation of the associated energy in a manner harmless to said hydrophilic gel.
