Abstract

Abstract A gaseous fuel mixture burner has a gaseous fuel diffuser mounted in the outlet of the burner. The diffuser provides a multiplicity of ports at which the fuel mixture burns once ignited. Through the diffuser extends a path through which a cooling fluid is circulated. Used in conjunction with the burner to provide the gaseous fuel mixture is a mixer device into which gas is injected so as to provide a gaseous vortex formation within the mixer, air being drawn into the device and mixed with the gas by the low pressure region created within the vortex.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 160 words
A gaseous fuel burner assembly comprising in combination: a gaseous fuel mixture supply duct, a gaseous fuel burner having an axis of symmetry, a downstream end in the form of a burner mouth transverse to said axis of symmetry, and an upstream end connected to said gaseous fuel mixture supply duct, and gaseous fuel diffuser means comprising a body comprising an assembly of spaced, finned pipes extending across the mouth of said burner transversely of said axis of symmetry with the spaces between said fins constituting passageways for uncombusted fuel, said passageways constituting the sole gaseous fuel outlet for said burner, said passageways having inlet ends positioned to receive an uncombusted fuel mixture from said supply duct and outlet ends exposed to the ambient air which constitute substantially the sole flame ports at which combustion takes place, and said pipes constituting coolant passage means in heat exchange relationship with substantially all of said fuel passageways upstream of said flame ports.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 160 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 40 words
A gaseous fuel burner assembly as claimed in claim 1 which further comprises an air/gaseous fuel mixer device having an inlet for air, an inlet for gaseous fuel, and an outlet for an air/gaseous fuel mixture communicating with said duct.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
A gaseous fuel assembly as claimed in claim 2 comprising a further air inlet positioned to admit air into said duct adjacent said mixer device outlet.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
A gaseous fuel burner assembly as claimed in claim 2 in which said mixer device outlet is separated from the upstream end of said duct by an air gap open to atmosphere.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 118 words
A gaseous fuel burner as claimed in claim 1 and further including an air/gaseous fuel mixer device comprising an open-ended vessel having a longitudinal axis and an air inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end communicating with said duct, a plurality of fuel inlets for conveying gaseous fuel into said vessel, each such fuel inlet being positioned to cause entry of said gaseous fuel into said vessel between the open ends of the latter in such manner as to impart to said gaseous fuel a helical motion about said longitudinal axis with a component of motion directed towards the outlet of said vessel, whereby air is drawn into said vessel through the inlet thereof.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
A gaseous fuel burner assembly as claimed in claim 5 in which the mixer device includes two parts that have mating surfaces, the orifices being formed between the surfaces.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 84 words
A gaseous fuel burner assembly as claimed in claim 6 in which there is included a further resilient part that is mounted between the two parts and defines at least part of the walls of said fuel inlets so that the cross-sectional area of the fuel inlets is determined by the degree of compression of the further part, and in which the two parts are adjustable in position relatively to one another in order to vary the degree of compression of the further part.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 35 words
A gaseous fuel burner as claimed in claim 5 in which the internal contour of the vessel is of venturi form, the longitudinal axis of the vessel being coincident with the axis of the venturi.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 22 words
A gaseous fuel burner as claimed in claim 8 in which the fuel inlets are located at the throat of the venturi.
